Popular "Empire State of Mind" Spoof Targets Welsh Town

There are a lot of music parodies on YouTube, but a spoof of “Empire State of Mind” that describes a town in Wales has become a sensation in the last week. The song is titled “Newport (Ymerodraeth State of Mind)" -- using the Welsh word for “empire” -- and features a man and a woman filling the roles of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, singing about the town’s beer, cheese and shopping centers, and referencing Welsh celebrities like Tom Jones and Catherine Zeta-Jones. It has received more than 1.65 million hits on YouTube so far. The filmmaker behind the clip, Morgan Jane Delaney, says she chose to mock Newport because she and her friends thought it would be funny.
