American Idols Live Tour in Trouble, Sales-Wise?
It looks as though the American Idols Live tour has fallen prey to the same concert woes that have affected Lilith Fair and many other artists this summer. USA Today reports that the September 11th tour stop in Cleveland, Ohio has been canceled due to poor ticket sales, while tickets for scheduled shows in Omaha and Kansas City "aren't for sale through Ticketmaster right now" -- which means they might be officially canceled as well. According to USA Today, music biz insider Bob Lefsetz published an e-mail from an anonymous booking agent saying some of the dates have been canceled due to poor sales.
Additionally, several dates on the tour have now shifted. Lee DeWyze said Saturday via Twitter that his hometown show at Chicago's United Center has been moved from August 30th to August 28th, while a September 13th show in Bridgeport, Connecticut has been moved up to July 9th from September 13th.
Gary Bongiavanni of Pollstar magazine says tours in general have suffered this year due to the sagging economy. He explains, "There are going to be winners and losers because people have to make tough choices. There are just going to be more shows that don't meet their financial goals in this kind of environment."
